Data 2 Value door Ronald Kok (Dutch)

Vorige maand is mijn collega Ronald Kok gestart met bloggen. De passie van Ronald is het bevrijden / ontsluiten van data en deze vervolgens zodanig aanbieden dat je er snel waarde uit kan ontlenen; ‘Data 2 Value’. Via zijn blog probeert Ronald zijn lezers te informeren over allerlei ontwikkelingen en thema’s rondom het bevrijden en aanbieden van data. Daarnaast hoopt hij zijn lezers te prikkelen met (aanvechtbare) stellingen.

Hoewel enigszins bevooroordeeld, lees ik de blogs van Ronald met plezier. Ik adviseer je om ook eens een kijkje te nemen. Schroom zeker niet om zijn blogs van commentaar te voorzien. Wie weet wat voor een interessante discussie daaruit ontstaat…..

OBIBB – Season’s Greetings

Although a few of us (like me) have to go for another week, 2011 is almost over. It has been an exciting year, again. I have made switch from Scamander to Ebicus and Oracle had a few things to announce regarding the Oracle BI Foundation.

Hopefully next year will be a thrilling year for me and you again. Just like last year;  I wish you, your family and your friends all the best. I hope you will have some pleasant days, with nice food & drinks.

OBIBB Update

For me personally, the last few months were dominated by my switch of employer. For the past seven years I have worked for Scamander Solutions (The Data Liberation Company). Since 1 may 2011 I have joined Ebicus (Excellence in Oracle/Siebel BI & CRM ), to help expanding the Oracle BI Practice.

I hope I will be able to contribute some new  Oracle BI (Applications) content to the community the coming months. Lucky enough for me Oracle decided to release a new version of their Oracle BI Suite. There should be enough to explore.

Next to that, I will be joining the Rittman Mead BI Forum 2011. I have attended the forum last year, so I am confident this will become a very interesting event again. My advice is the same as last year; Keep an eye out for blogs from some of the attendees and Twitter posts (hashtag #biforum). I will try to post some of my notes as well.

Scamander – Gezocht: Professionals met drive (Dutch)

Ik werk alweer ruim 6,5 jaar met veel plezier bij Scamander Solutions uit Nieuwegein. In die 6,5 jaar heb ik mij verder kunnen ontwikkelen tot de consultant, die ik nu ben.

“Wij geven mensen de vrijheid van keuze en handelen door bevrijding van gegevens”. Hoewel we natuurlijk een commercieel bedrijf zijn, geldt dit ook voor de eigen consultants. Scamander biedt je de vrijheid om je binnen de visie van Scamander verder te ontwikkelen. Ik heb daarin mijn eigen weg gevonden. Inmiddels kan ik stellen dat ik zowel intern als extern géén onbekende ben in de wereld van Oracle BI. Op eigen kracht bereikt, maar wel voor een groot deel gefaciliteerd door Scamander.

Met een clubje van consultants helpen wij dagelijks onze klanten met uiteenlopende rapportage-, datamigratie-, en dataintegratie vraagstukken. Onze activiteiten lopen uiteen van advies, ontwikkeling en implementatie tot beheer. Wij hebben een rood hart. Dat wil zeggen; Oracle Technologie zit in ons bloed. Het merendeel van onze activiteiten voeren wij uit in Oracle bolwerken.

Wij kunnen daar wel wat extra handjes bij gebruiken. “Scamander komt graag in contact met professionals die flexibel zijn, die ondernemerschap tonen, die veel kennis van, of affiniteit met, Oracle database technologie hebben”. Voldoe je dan aan deze eigenschappen, sluit je dan aan bij onze club.

Oracle Spatial Workshop

“Knowledge is Power”. Exchanging knowledge is a very effective way to gain knowledge. Not only for the audience, but also for the one who shares the knowledge. It obviously takes a lot of time and effort to prepare a good presentation about a certain subject.

In my company; Scamander Solutions, there is set a lot of value on exchanging knowledge between our consultants. One  of the methods we use is our so called; Pizza Session. These are internal sessions in which one of our consultants prepares a four hour (handson) session about any Oracle related topic, which interests us. At dinner time we eat pizza.

Next wednesday we will  cover the subject of Oracle Spatial. This session is organized by Maarten Jan Kampen. Since last year Maarten Jan is a well known speaker on several different forums and events.

Maarten Jan will present us a handson session in which he will address the following topics

  • Oracle Spatial in general,
  • Oracle Spatial in terms of  query possibilities,
  • The contours of our office will be used to show on the map and to make queries,
  • Oracle Spatial and Oracle BI.

It’s promised to be interesting.
